This membership organization provides
technical advice on building mountain
bike trails and offers resources to develop
statewide advocacy groups. Anyone who
rides a mountain bike should belong to
IMBA
Rails-to-Trails
Conservancy (RTC)
This organization is largely responsible for establishing more than 10,000
miles of rail-trail conversions all across America, with another 20,000
miles currently in development. RTC provides legal guidance, design help,
and economic impact statistics to support the building and use of trails
both nationally and internationally.
Responsible Organized Mountain Pedalers (ROMP)
Made up of over 300 mountain cyclists, ROMP
leads mountain cycling advocacy and social events in California's San Mateo
and Santa Clara counties (west and south of San Francisco Bay). To accomplish their
mission of leading the participation of mountain cyclists in the trail community, ROMP works with local cycling
industry leaders, government agencies, and other trail user groups
Bikes
Belong Coalition (BBC)
The Bikes Belong Coalition is an industry-led and funded organization
dedicated to utilizing federal TEA-21 funds to build bicycle lanes, designated
routes, trails, etc. BBC offers an excellent Guide to Bicycle Advocacy
booklet, as well as provides grants to advocacy organizations, economic
redevelopment groups, communities, etc., engaged in making their communities
more bicycle friendly.
