Advocacy Groups

International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA)

This membership organization provides technical advice on building mountain bike trails and offers resources to develop statewide advocacy groups. Anyone who rides a mountain bike should belong to IMBA

Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC)

This organization is largely responsible for establishing more than 10,000 miles of rail-trail conversions all across America, with another 20,000 miles currently in development. RTC provides legal guidance, design help, and economic impact statistics to support the building and use of trails both nationally and internationally.

Responsible Organized Mountain Pedalers (ROMP)

Made up of over 300 mountain cyclists, ROMP leads mountain cycling advocacy and social events in California's San Mateo and Santa Clara counties (west and south of San Francisco Bay). To accomplish their mission of leading the participation of mountain cyclists in the trail community, ROMP works with local cycling industry leaders, government agencies, and other trail user groups

Bikes Belong Coalition (BBC)
The Bikes Belong Coalition is an industry-led and funded organization dedicated to utilizing federal TEA-21 funds to build bicycle lanes, designated routes, trails, etc. BBC offers an excellent Guide to Bicycle Advocacy booklet, as well as provides grants to advocacy organizations, economic redevelopment groups, communities, etc., engaged in making their communities more bicycle friendly.
